Lynn Galen, son of Roland A. and Irma Ann (Christensen) Petersen, was born July 7, 1934 at Atlantic, IA. He attended Clay #2 school and then graduated from Elk Horn High School in 1952. Lynn worked as a mechanic for the school managing the bus barn for two years. In 1956 he attended National Trade Schools in Los Angeles, CA, and then served in the United States Army for two years. Lynn was united in marriage with Joyce Ann Baker on June 6, 1958 at the First Federated Church in Des Moines, IA. The couple made their home in Los Angeles and three children were born to this union. Lynn continued his career as an auto transmission mechanic in Los Angeles and later Denver, CO. In 1965 the couple purchased a farm in Clay Township near Elk Horn where they have lived ever since. Lynn farmed and raised livestock, as well as working as an Archer Oil Dealer for 45 years. He loved to feed cattle, which he did for over 47 years. Lynn earned conservation awards for his stewardship of the farmland, as well as a Shelby County Master Farmer and Century Farm awards. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elk Horn. Lynn was diagnosed with Lymphoma and went home to be with the Lord four days later on Sunday, March 30, 2014. He died at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 23 days. He is preceded in death by his parents Roland and Irma Petersen. Lynn is survived by his wife of 55 years Joyce A. Petersen of Elk Horn; their three children and 12 grandchildren: Brian (Lisa) Petersen of Rochester, MN, and their children Andrea, Jenna and Reed Petersen; Kim (Jeff) Mossman of Conrad and their children Melissa (Joel) Graber, Clarke, Emily, Jacob and Kaylynn Mossman; Kevin (Carrie) Petersen of Elk Horn, and their children Kendall, Kyle, Noah and Ella Petersen; sisters Julie (Dean) Flesner of Atlanta, GA, and Dixie (Rod) Knowles of Atlanta, GA; other relatives and friends.
