Lyle Aldreth, son of Robert Haden and Edna Pearl (Pierce) Kinnick, was born January 6, 1917 in Guthrie County, Iowa. He grew up in Guthrie County, attending rural and Coon Rapids-Bayard schools. In 1932 he moved with his family to Glidden and graduated from Glidden High School in 1936. He worked at various jobs until enlisting the United States Coast Guard on December 13, 1941. He was a motor machinist mate and served in the Pacific Theatre. He received his honorable discharge on December 16 1946 and was awarded the WW II Victory Medal.
On November 5, 1947, Lyle was united in marriage with Eva Marie Marchant at Corydon. For several years they lived in Minnesota before moving back to Guthrie County where he worked at the Goat Ranch until 1967. They then moved into Bayard and Lyle worked for the ASCS for 17 years and also worked for various farmers.
Lyle was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bayard, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (life member) and the Odd Fellows Lodge. He was also a member of the Two-Cylinder Antique Tractor Club and thoroughly enjoyed his John Deere G. He was active in the community and served as mayor for 8 years.
Lyle continued to live in Bayard after the death of his wife Marie in December of 2001. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2004. He was able to remain at home until about a week before his death on Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at Bayard Nursing and Rehab Center. He was 90 years and 3 days of age.
