In 1932 he moved with his family to Glidden and graduated from Glidden High School in 1936. He worked at various jobs until enlisting the United States Coast Guard on December 13, 1941.    On November 5, 1947, Lyle was united in marriage with Eva Marie Marchant at Corydon. For several years they lived in Minnesota before moving back to Guthrie County where he worked at the Goat Ranch until 1967. They then moved into Bayard and Lyle worked for the ASCS for 17 years and also worked for various farmers.

Lyle continued to live in Bayard after the death of his wife Marie in December of 2001. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in       2004. He was able to remain at home until about a week before his death on Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at Bayard Nursing and Rehab Center. He was 90 years and 3 days of age.
