Luella Hull

Luella Helen, daughter of Bernard and Eleanor (Gubbles) Schmitz was born May 20, 1937 on the family farm at Westphalia, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the St. Boniface Church in Westphalia. Luella graduated from St. Boniface High School in 1955. Luella was a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Manning Plaza nursing home for several years. She was a bright spot in many a resident's day offering a kind or funny comment, sharing a smile, or simply taking the time to listen to a story. From April 25, 1959 to 1979 Luella was married to Larry Hull. From this union four children were born: LaNora, Jeannie, Michael and Joe. Throughout her life Luella maintained a strong Christian faith and she was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Manning. From this faith grew her remarkable fighting spirit that tirelessly rebounded from life's large and small challenges. Luella's days were filled with the happiness and laughter of her grandchildren. As a grandmother, she cherished each memory created in their company. Luella worked stitch by stitch to create a special afghan for each child and grandchild, ensuring they would always be wrapped in her warmth. Luella joined the Manilla Manor nursing home family on October 27, 2014. On Monday, June 2, 2015, she completed her faith journey by joining her Heavenly Father at the age of 78. Luella is survived by her children LaNora Gollobit (Bruce) of Manilla; Jeannie Bral (Jaymie) of Storm Lake; and Mike Hull (Amy) of Manilla; grandchildren: Jaymie Joe Bral, John Bral, Joy Bral and Jase Hull; siblings Sister Bernice Schmitz, Lester Schmitz, Vernie Schmitz (Mary), Arlene Hodapp (Bob), Sister Lorraine Schmitz; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Joe Hull; her parents; siblings Eugene Schmitz, Eldred Schmitz, Marce Bissen, Bernadette Conkel, Luanna Schmitz; sister-in-law Rita Schmitz, brothers-in-law Frankie Bissen and Paul Conkel; and nieces Denise Wurr and Susie Schmitz.
