Luella Esdohr

Luella Emma, daughter of Leo and Rose (Hofbauer) Beyerink, was born on May 28, 1933 near Coon Rapids, in Carroll County, Iowa. Luella attended country school, Catholic school and then graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1951. Following high school Luella worked at the Cash-N-Carry and cleaners in Coon Rapids, all the while awaiting her sweetheart's return from serving in the Korean War. On May 11, 1954 Luella was united in marriage with George K. Esdohr at St. Patrick's Church in Carroll. The couple then made their home in Coon Rapids where six children were born to their union. Luella devoted herself to homemaking and motherhood. She was well known for her love of garage sales and auctions and operated an antique store in the 1970's. Luella had gone fishing in Minnesota with her family every year since 1965. She enjoyed sports, horseback riding, the Saddle Club, painting and bowling. Luella was a member of the Carrollton Community Heritage Club, China Painting Club, the Annunciation Church Ladies Guild and Divine Mercy and Prayer Group. Following an extended illness Luella moved to the Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids where she passed away on April 15, 2010. She was 76 years, 11 months and 3 days of age. Luella is preceded in death by her parents; brother Ernest Beyerink; sister in infancy Eunice Beyerink; parents-in-law George and Mildred Esdohr; and granddaughter in infancy Ashley Esdohr. Luella is survived by her husband George K. Esdohr of Coon Rapids; six children: Cindy Golay (Ed) of Coon Rapids; Jon Esdohr (Lori) of Coon Rapids; Mary Grimm (Kevin) of Audubon; Duane Esdohr (Robyn) of Coon Rapids; Michael Esdohr (Michelle) of Coon Rapids; and Matthew Esdohr of Coon Rapids; 22 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; nieces Pam Hessenflow and Renee Nicola; nephew Jay Beyerink and other relatives and friends.
