Louise Kennebeck

Born on February 7, 1918 at Willey, Iowa, Louise Sophia was the daughter of John T. and Anna (Hackfort) Schmitz. She grew up in the Willey area where she attended St. Mary's School through the eighth grade. Louise went back to school taking night classes at Carroll Public School where she received her high school diploma in 1981. On May 22, 1946 she was united in marriage to Leonard J. Brincks at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willey with Reverend H. J. Dries officiating. After their marriage the couple made their home in Carroll. Leonard passed away just two years later in 1948. Louise was united in marriage to Charles J. Kennebeck on September 8, 1956 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Carroll with Msgr. Patrick T. Lynch officiating. Louise and Charles owned and operated the C&L Grocery Store in Carroll for several years. She also worked for the Daily Times Herald for over 26 years. "Grandma Louise" was a Foster Grandparent at Fairview Elementary School for 15 years. She was very dedicated and loyal to both the teachers and students. Louise retired at the age of 92. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, active with the Women's Guild and a long-standing member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her health began to decline quickly in early October. She died at St. Anthony Hospital on October 11, 2015 at the age of 97 years, 8 months and 4 days. Louise was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Leonard J. Brincks on October 16, 1948 and Charles J. Kennebeck on August 6, 1980; siblings Leone Kitt, Edward Schmitz, Rose Gross, Mary Werner, Leo Schmitz, Louis Schmitz and Paul (Pat) Schmitz, as well as other extended family members. Left to celebrate Louise's life are her daughters Linda Brincks Golwitzer and husband Ernest of Huntsville, AL and Carla Kennebeck Bernholtz of Carroll; grandchildren Lisa (Patrick) Mason of Hunstville, AL, Patrick (Dawn) Golwitzer of Hunstville, AL, Andrew (Megan) Bernholtz of Ankeny and Elise (Adam) Soyer of Carroll; great-grandchildren Kathryn Mason, Margaret Mason and Emma Golwitzer; siblings Andrew Schmitz and Helen Schmitz of Carroll; in-laws Betty Masching of Carroll, Alphons "Bud" Brincks of Carroll, Delores (Delbert) Kasperbauer of Carroll, Henry Seidl of Carroll, Diane Brincks of Carroll, Mary Bernholtz of Carroll, Ruth Snyder of Carroll, Eugene "Bud" Kennebeck of Carroll, Doris (Bill) Bruggeman of Lake City, Larry (Della) Hinners of Manning and Marvin Snyder of Carroll; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
