Louis Hudson, son of John Nelson and Jeanette (Reed) Miller, was born September 21, 1917, at home in Rock Island County, Illinois. He attended school in Mercer County and married Bernice Pauline Plank in Muscatine, Iowa on December 18, 1940. He farmed for 10 years until 1952 near Muscatine, and during that time he and Bernice became members of the Walnut Park Baptist Church.
Louis attended the Omaha Baptist Bible Institute in Omaha, Nebraska, and was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in 1955 at Botna, Iowa. He has served in the ministry since that time in Botna, Floris and Belmond. He directed the Iowa Regular Baptist Camp for seven years before moving to Manning to serve the same people from the Botna congregation. Reverend Miller and Bernice then began their missionary work and in 1983 they became associate missionaries for station supply & building with Continental Baptist Missions. From their home base in Manning, they have served communities in Illinois, Iowa, New York, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. A very special highlight of Louis life was to be named Pastor Emeritus of Calvary Baptist Church in Manning.
When Pastor Miller and Bernice could no longer live alone in their home, they moved to the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. After Bernice’s death on June 10, 2013 Louis continued to live at the Plaza where he thoroughly enjoyed his walks about town and visiting with everyone. Louis died at the Plaza in Manning on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the age of 99 years, 1 month and 19 days.
Louis is preceded in death by his wife; parents; daughter Mary Pauline; grandsons John and Doug McAllister; three brothers Earl, Ira and Joseph Miller; and six sisters Ethel Ambers, Mildred Divens, Gertrude Welch, Mary Gallagher Frances Frieden and Jeanette Radics.
