Lorraine Helen, daughter of Clarence and Huldah (Jensen) Grundmeier, was born on December 12, 1925, in Manning, Iowa. She grew up with two sisters and two brothers in the Boyer Valley towns of Ute, Mapleton, Denison, Logan and Woodbine where her dad set up Jerpe Cream Stations. In sixth grade they returned to Manning where Lorraine completed her schooling. She graduated with the Class of 1943 and then spent a year in Des Moines at beauty school. After getting her license, she started her own beauty shop in Manning.

In September of 1952, Lorraine was united in marriage with Merlyn Buzz? Hargens. Four children were born to this union. The family made their home in Manning where Lorraine worked for 29 years as a CNA at the Manning Plaza.

Lorraine and Buzz enjoyed fishing together and going to the horse races. She fondly remembered their honeymoon at a racetrack in Denver. In her spare time, Lorraine enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and watching television. She spent time outdoors and taking long walks. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Lorraine was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.

After her husbands death in 1991, Lorraine remained in their home for a time and then lived at Elm Crest and Terrace Apartments. She spent a summer at the Manning Plaza following a broken hip in 2003. On Easter of 2006, Lorraine became a resident of the Plaza where she passed away on Monday, October 23, 2006, at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 11 days.

Preceding Lorraine in death are her parents; husband; brother Grant Grundmeier and wife Pat; and sister Shirley and husband Alvin Mac? McConnell.

She is survived by four children: Doug Hargens and wife Delma of Manning; twins Paul Hargens and wife Elizabeth of Peoria, IL and Peg and husband Jason Virgilio of Andover, KS; and Jeff Hargens and wife Jean of Manning; ten grandchildren: Derek, Vanessa, Dale, Kenzie, Kristen, Jeff, Jacob, Shad, Lauren and Danielle; four great-grandchildren: Caleb, Jonathon, Cheyenne and Legolis; brother Gerald Grundmeier and friend Rita of Yucaipa, CA; sister Joanne and husband Gale Moore of Yuma, AZ; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
