Lois Elaine, daughter of Frank and Gladys (Day) Siemer, was born January 4, 1947 at Denison, Iowa. She grew up in Denison and graduated from Denison High School in 1965. She then trained at Weaver Airlines School in Kansas City.

On June 3, 1967, Lois was united in marriage with Richard Maxwell at Sacred Heart Church in Manilla. Three children were born to this union. Lois and Richard lived in Manning from 1969 until 1976 where he was an elementary school teacher. During the summers they managed the M & M Golf Course located between Manning and Manilla. After a short time in Ames, they settled in Lytton for 25 years. During their time in Lytton, they purchased a grocery store, where Lois worked. They eventually closed the store in Lytton to become managers of a grocery business in Sac City.  In 2001, they moved to Adel where they managed another grocery business for four years. Most recently Lois worked for Fareway Foods primarily in the grocery scanning co-ordination of the business.

Loiss warm smile and welcoming personality made her an instant friend to everyone she met. She enjoyed golfing, walking and reading light mysteries. Lois took pleasure in knitting, often making afghans for loved ones special occasions. She had many fond memories of time spent with family and friends. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren, reading stories, playing games, and attending their events.

Lois was diagnosed with cancer in February of 2008. She courageously battled the disease until her death on Sunday, December 14, 2008. Lois died peacefully at Mercy Hospice House in Johnston.

Preceding Lois in death are her parents; twin grandchildren; two sisters at childbirth; mother and father-in-law Kathleen and John Maxwell; and brother-in-law Dayle Hilterbrand.

She is survived by her husband Richard Maxwell of Adel; three children: Elizabeth and husband Mark Kutchen of Ames; Thomas Maxwell and wife Kate of Iowa City and Edward Maxwell and wife Sarah of Adel; six grandchildren: Taylor, Jonathan and Hannah Kutchen; Lucinda Maxwell  and Charlie and Erica Maxwell; four sisters: Marilyn Hilterbrand of Yuma, AZ; Rosalie and husband Jim Macumber of Manilla; Pat and husband Randy Nemitz of Waukee and Pam and husband Mark Lane of Des Moines; five brothers: Max Siemer and wife Mary of Princeton, MO; Rex Siemer and wife Dona of Spickard, MO; Gail Siemer and wife Betty of Trenton, MO; Dean Siemer and wife Donna of Nixa, MO and David Siemer and wife Karol of Kansas City, MO; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss her greatly.
