Lloyd Dale, son of Morton and Elsie (Christofferson) Nelsen, was born July 23 1927 in Shelby County, Iowa. He attended rural school and then started farming with his father.
On December 12, 1948 Lloyd was united in marriage with Leila Mae Andersen at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton. They were the parents of two sons and made their home on the farm north of Kimballton. Shortly after his marriage his mother died and his father married Edith Tapp Andersen who became a loving stepmother. During the Korean Conflict, Lloyd served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. When he returned after his honorable discharge he continued farming north of Kimballton. Lloyd was a farmer all his life tending to his crops and livestock.
After retiring from farming, the couple moved into Kimballton in 1991. Lloyd was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, AmVets in Kimballton, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Elk Horn and the Community Heritage Society. Lloyd enjoyed attending farm auctions where he purchased old tools and collectables that he would clean up and resell. He also had a collection of toy tractors at one time. When he started farming it was with a team of horses, and Lloyd remained fond of horses so he bought his boys a pony. In addition, Lloyd enjoyed going to parades in the area and checking out all the old cars and tractors.
When his wife’s health began to fail she became a resident of Salem Lutheran Home. She died there in May of 2014. Lloyd remained in their home in Kimballton until April 10, 2017 when he became a resident of the nursing home. He died at Salem Lutheran Home on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 28 days.
Preceding him in death are his parents, wife, step mother and sister Fern Clemsen. Lloyd is survived by his two sons Mark D. Nelsen (Donna) of Harlan and John A. Nelsen (Therese) of Kimballton; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; step brother Paul Andersen of Baton Rouge, LA; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
