George Lincoln, son of George Thomas and Martha (Pevestorf) Mozena Thomas, was born February 12, 1923 on a farm in Greene County, Iowa. He attended rural school through the eleventh grade and then finished his last year at Bayard High School. He graduated with the Class of 1941. Lincoln then started farming with his dad. During this time he lost his hand in a corn picker accident. However he adapted and continued to do whatever was needed around the farmstead. On February 24, 1946, Lincoln was united in marriage with Norma Mae Knight at Trinity Lutheran Church located northwest of Bayard. They lived on a farm south of Ralston and then east of Bayard before moving into Bayard in 1966. They were the parents of three sons. Lincoln worked at Garst and Thomas Seed Corn Company in Coon Rapids and after 20 years with them he retired in 1985. Lincoln was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and in his spare time thoroughly enjoyed fishing. He was an avid lifelong Yankee fan. Lincoln and Norma moved to Clinton in 2006 to be nearer their sons and families. His wife died in 2009 and Lincoln continued to live in Clinton. He died on Monday, May 9, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center North Campus, Clinton, at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 27 days. Preceding him in death are his parents; wife; son Tam Thomas and four half-brothers Ted, Jack, Bob and Orville Mozena. Lincoln is survived by his two sons Tom Thomas and wife Sherry of Clinton and Tim Thomas and his wife Lupe of Clinton; four grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Mary Pevestorf of Nevada; his wife's cousins Fern Betts of Bayard and Darlene Antisdale of Glidden; other relatives and friends.
