Leroy Lingle

LeRoy Edson, son of Alfred T. and Edith (Darling) Lingle, was born October 3, 1940, in Denison, Iowa. He attended school in Manilla and graduated from Manilla High School in 1958. Growing up LeRoy helped his family farm near Manilla. LeRoy was united in marriage with Judy Thomssen on July 23, 1961, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla where he had also been baptized and was a confirmed member. LeRoy had a true passion for farming and taking care of his cows. He was a hard worker and did a lot of custom bailing work, sometimes putting in 20 hour days. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren fishing, camping and going to the Iowa State Fair. LeRoy liked to draw animals with his kids and grandkids. He loved a good laugh and would often entertain with a good joke or yodel. LeRoy always encouraged his family to make a "special effort" and said, "If you can't be good, behave." LeRoy suffered from Lewy Body Disease which forced him to retire but he continued to help farm when he was able. He became a resident of the Mnailla Manor in March of 2014. LeRoy was taken to the Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, with heart related issues and passed away there June 5, 2014, at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 2 days. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Marjorie (Glen) Lochmiller; brother Ramon Lingle and brothers in law William Kerr and Kenneth Carlson LeRoy is survived by his loving wife Judy Lingle of Manilla; children: Cynthia (Daniel) Fastje of Denison; Steven (Wende Meyer) Lingle of Manilla; Susan (Rodney) Weltz of Denison; Scott (Kristine) Lingle of Manilla; Sylvia (Klint Cork) Brinker of Carroll; Curtis Lingle of Manilla; Brian (Penny) Lingle of Manilla; 17 grandchildren: Nicholas Fastje, Nathan Fastje, Jacob, Michael, and Matthew Weltz, Jessica, Cole , and Miranda Lingle; Kyler, Kody and Kara Brinker; Leanne, Sara, Alex, and Ben Lingle; Samantha and Madison Lingle, Madison Lingle; siblings Donna Kerr of Colorado; Daniel (Martha) Lingle of Missouri; Alfred David (Rosetta) Lingle of California; Janice Carlson of Denison; sister in law Josephine Lingle of Manilla; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
