Leonilla M. Hamilton, 94, of South Bend entered into eternal life on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the Sanctuary at St. Paul's in South Bend. Leonilla was born in Willey, Iowa on January 10, 1917 to Bernard and Mary (Meissner) Greteman. She attended St. Angela's Academy in Carroll and Clark University in Dubuque where she studied nursing. Leonilla then completed her R.N. training at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll. She married Charles R. Hamilton on July 16, 1941 in California. Leonilla and her husband were the owners of Hamilton Funeral Home in Algona, IA for many years. Charles died in 1968. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for over 50 years and while in South Bend she was a member of Holy Cross Parish. Leonilla was preceded in death by her parents, husband, eight brothers: Bishop Frank H. Greteman, Msgr. Bernard V. Greteman, Father Lawrence J. Greteman, Father James B. Greteman, John Greteman, Clem Greteman, Victor Greteman and Joseph Greteman and four sisters: Elizabeth Carraher, Rosa Mahaffey, Sr. Ann Greteman and Margaret M. Greteman. She is survived by two daughters; Anne (James Powell) of South Bend, Indiana; Mary Treinen of Wichita, Kansas and one son, John Hamilton of Sioux City; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one sister, Mary Lex of Carroll.
