Lenore Nadene Frederiksen was born on June 10, 1930, the daughter of Adolph and Edna (Madsen) Lange, at her parents’ home in Oakfield Township, Audubon County. She was baptized and later confirmed her faith at Elk Horn Lutheran Church, of which she remained a lifelong member. She attended Clay No. 4 rural school and Elk Horn High School, graduating in 1947. Following graduation, she worked at Elk Horn Farm Equipment, Danish Mutual Insurance Association, and Shelby County State Bank.
On December 31, 1950, Lenore was united in marriage with Darrell Frederiksen at Elk Horn Lutheran Church. She moved to Oceanside, California, to join Darrell, who was serving in the Marine Corps. During this time, she was employed at Security National Bank. When Darrell was discharged from the Marine Corps in 1954, they returned to Iowa and moved to a farm northeast of Elk Horn. Lenore helped Darrell on the farm, where they raised their two children, Mark and Paul. She operated a dog kennel and worked part-time for Danish Mutual Insurance in Elk Horn. They lived there for 35 years before moving to Elk Horn in 1989.
Lenore was a member of the Lutheran Church Women, helping with church functions, and in later years, cut quilt blocks for them. She enjoyed reading, cross-stitching, and crocheting. She and Darrell enjoyed an active social life, including square dancing, playing cards, dining out, and traveling.
