Leana Mary, daughter of Edward G. and Margaret Pletchette Klocke was born March 23, 1933 at Dedham, in Carroll County, Iowa. She spent her childhood in the Dedham area and attended St. Joseph’s School through the 8th grade.
On April 14, 1953 Leana was united in marriage with Donald Kalkhoff at St. Joseph’s Church in Dedham. They lived their entire life and farmed west of Templeton on Don’s boyhood farm place. Leana was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Parish in Templeton and Sacred Heart Ladies Guild. Leana enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and canning the fruits of her labors. Leana and Don also enjoyed keeping a manicured lawn.
Leana and Don lived west of Templeton until 2016 when they moved to Char Mac Assisted Living (now called Manning Senior Living) in Manning. Leana died on Tuesday morning, June 2, 2020, after a short hospital stay at Manning Regional Healthcare Center. She was 87 years, 2 months and 10 days of age.
She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Jeanette Klocke in infancy, Evangeline (Cecil) Cox, Elaine (Clarence “Doc”) Sporrer, Luella (Bernard) Klein, her twin sister Leona (George) Erps, Joseph Klocke, Louis (Mary) Klocke, Harry Klocke; in laws: Don Irlmeier; Floyd (Pat) Kalkhoff and Bernard Gross; other relatives.
Leana is survived by her husband of 67 years, Don Kalkhoff of Manning; siblings: Kathleen Irlmeier of Audubon; Carol (Eugene) Hoffman of Carroll; in laws: Marlene Gross of Cedar Rapids; Lorraine Klocke of Carroll; many, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
