Larry Joe Arrowsmith

Larry Joseph "Joe," son of Charles and Addie (Patterson) Arrowsmith, was born July 1, 1943, at home in Guthrie County, Iowa. He attended school in Bayard, area country schools and Coon Rapids, where he graduated from high school. Joe also attended Buena Vista and Kirkwood colleges. Joe entered the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for a time. Following his discharge Joe lived in San Jose and Sacramento, CA. Through the years he did auto body and bricklaying work. Joe worked in road construction for 10 years before suffering a stroke that caused his retirement. He continued to live with his friend Marie and enjoyed tending his yard and flowers. Joe was very lucky and liked to pan for gold and play the slot machines at casinos. Over the years he enjoyed fishing and remote-control airplanes as well. Joe was fighting cancer and other complications when he died at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Sacramento, CA, on Sunday, September 18, 2011. He was 68 years, 2 months and 18 days of age. Preceding him in death are his parents; five siblings: Howard Arrowsmith (Edna); Audrey Caniglia (Ross); Gerald Arrowsmith (Pat); Harold Arrowsmith; and Norman Arrowsmith; three half-siblings: Frank Arrowsmith; Charlie Arrowsmith; and Opal Visner (Edward); and brother-in-law Bob Burns. Joe is survived by four siblings: John Arrowsmith (Dee) of Glidden; Donald Arrowsmith (Mary) of Orient; Kenneth Lee Arrowsmith (Ramona) of Sarasota, FL; Gloria Burns of Sacramento, CA; half-sister Irene Fick of Coon Rapids; sisters-in-law Mary Arrowsmith of Coon Rapids and Clara Arrowsmith of Minook, IL; friend Marie Cantu of Sacramento, CA; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
