Kristina Becker-Duroe

November 27, 1960 — June 2, 2013

Kristina Becker-Duroe, daughter of Paul and Arlene (Auen) Barnhart, was born November 27, 1960 in Indiana, PA. She grew up on the family farm in Blairsville, PA, doing chores and also worked at Westco Eggs, Inc. down the road. She attended Derry High School where she was a member of the color guard. After graduating in 1979 she earned her Associate's Degree in Broadcasting in Boston, MA. Kristina moved to Omaha, NE where she worked as a DJ at a radio station. In the summer of 1988, Kristina was united in marriage with Joe Becker. They lived in the Coon Rapids area. She worked at Hy-Vee, Pella Corporation and Delavan in Carroll through the years. Kristina then moved to Albia where she worked at Hy-Vee. Kristina loved gardening, ceramics and cooking. She was a fan of country western music and the Eagles. Along with her family she was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. As a young child, she read the dictionary often and as a result developed a great vocabulary. Kristina will be remembered for her love of children and had a special place in her heart for animals. Above all, she enjoyed the simple things in life. Recently, Kristina returned to Coon Rapids. She died as a result of an accident involving a train in Green County, Iowa on Sunday night June 2, 2013. She was 52 years, 7 months and 6 days of age. She is survived by her parents Paul and Arlene Barnhart of Derry, PA; children Travis (Kimber) Becker of Coon Rapids, Traci Becker of Coon Rapids, and Eric Bruellman of Coon Rapids; siblings Darlene (Sherill) Ott, of Sevierville, TN, Paula (Ron) Ankeny of Derry, PA, Mike (Theresa) Barnhart of Blairsville, PA, Debbie (Elton) Smith of Midland, TX and Karla (Lee) Grimes of Wytheville, VA; aunts and uncles and their families; dear friends Donna Lake and Joseph Becker; as well as many other relatives and friends.
