Kevin J. Weitl

    Kevin John, son of Fred and Betty (Klocke) Weitl, was born September 20, 1959 in Carroll, Iowa. He attended Holy Spirit School through the eighth grade then Carroll High School. In 1977 he enlisted in the United States Navy where he earned his GED. He made a career of the Navy completing many courses on electronic warfare and other areas of expertise. Kevin was a helicopter search and rescue swimmer. He received many commendations including Navy Rifle and Pistol Marksmanship Awards, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals and many others too numerous to mention.

    In his last year before retiring he was blessed with a son Parker while living in Florida. Kevin retired in 2000 at which time he returned to Iowa for a short time. He brought his son and his son’s mother back to Iowa several years later. Kevin worked for Kwajalein Range Services in the Marshall Islands at the Reagan Missile Test Site. After that he returned to Iowa for good. He worked in various counseling positions around the Carroll area while also taking college classes toward his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Human Services.

   Kevin was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, American Legion Maurice Dunn Post 7 and enjoyed fishing, target shooting and collecting rocks. His friends and family recall his great sense of humor and the many practical jokes he played on them all. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his son Parker, the center of his world.

   Kevin was moving snow late at night when he suffered a massive heart attack. He died early Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at St. Anthony Hospital Emergency Room, Carroll, Iowa. He was 56 years, 3 months and 9 days of age.

   Preceding him in death are his parents; brother Rick Weitl; nieces Celeste Perrien and Levon Weitl and nephews Tony Perrien and Todd Perrien.

   Kevin is survived by his son Parker Bates and Parker’s mother Wendy Bates of Carroll; sisters Sharon Perrien of Omaha, NE, Debbie Schafer (Mel) of Omaha, NE, Barb Halinan(Merle) of Omaha, NE,  Lisa Drees of Carroll and Robyn Lawler (Tom) of Carroll and brother Kenneth Weitl (Anya) of Lurgen, Ireland; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
