Manning Cemetery, Manning, Iowa

Keith Eugene, son of Marvin and Florence (Steckelberg) Hass, was born April 17, 1941 on a farm near Botna in Crawford County, Iowa. He spent his younger years in the Botna area and moved with his family to Manning in 1952. Keith graduated from Manning High School in 1959.

On September 5, 1959, Keith was united in marriage with Sandra Dammann at the United Methodist Church in Manning and they made their home in Manning. As a salesman for several companies, Keith was a hard and loyal worker. His favorite position was with Golden Sun Feeds.  In January of 2000, he and Sandra became the proud owners of R.C. Booth Enterprises, a publisher of plat books. Traveling Iowa, Nebraska and Illinois, he logged many miles of travel and challenged himself each evening to find the best (cheapest) hotel deal in town.

Keith grew up as a MHS Bulldog. He was his grandkids’ #1 fan……cheering them on at their games and events and all the while keeping the referees honest. He had a lifelong love of golf and was able to enjoy recent seasons on the course with his buddies. He also enjoyed politics, television, fishing and mowing lawn.  He was fond of sharing the long version of a short story with any willing listener.  Nicknamed by his family “The Boss”, he accepted the role and proclaimed himself “firm but fair”.  He was a world traveler, exploring China, Thailand, India, Israel, Egypt, Tanzania, Singapore and other exotic corners of the earth with Sandra.

Keith was a member of the United Methodist Church in Manning and the Manning-Manilla Country Club.

Keith and Sandra were parents to three daughters and then three sons, chosen for him by those daughters.  They are: Teresa Kasperbauer and husband Kevin of Vail; Lisa Hodne and husband Trenton of Manilla; and Anissa Irlmeier and husband Bruce of Templeton.

Keith was husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother and friend to many. He is survived by his wife of 59 years,  Sandra; his daughters and their husbands;  12 grandchildren: Krystle (Aaron) Kautzky of Westside; Kari (Brian) Guilford of Carroll; Tyler Kasperbauer and fiancée Shanea McBride of Westside; Larissa Hodne of Templeton; T.J. (Katelyn) Hodne of Manilla; Derek (Brenna) Hodne of Irwin; Daniel Hodne and fiancée Alison Luft of Vail; Miranda (Dustin) Christensen of Huxley;  Mitchell Irlmeier and special friend Alyssa Chapman of Eldridge; Carley Irlmeier of Indianola; and Carter and Cooper Irlmeier of Templeton; AFS daughter Kumi Smith-Gordon and spouse Lionel of London and their children Henry, Erika and Jasper; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister Kathryn Cooper of Glenwood; a brother Kurt Hass of Atlantic; in-laws: Jolene Hass of Loveland, CO; Robert Subbert of Panora; Geri (Kenneth) Spies of Manning; Nancy Swander of Carroll; and LeRoy and Richard Dammann of Manning.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson Joshua Kasperbauer, his sister Kay Subbert and two brothers Kevin and Kenneth.

On Sunday May 27, 2018, Keith passed away at Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa on Sunday, May 27, 2018. He was 77 years of age.
