Kathleen Louise Kay?, daughter of Leo and Anne (Bang) McMahon, was born September 8, 1915, at Niagra, North Dakota. She grew up in North Dakota and graduated from Larimore High School. Kay completed two years of college at Mayville, North Dakota, concentrating in education. She taught public school in small schools in North Dakota for seven years.

   On September 30 1942, Kay was united in marriage with Edward James Lyons at Larimore, North Dakota. They were the parents of two sons. They moved to Iowa where they lived on the farm for a few years. In 1959 they moved into Bayard where Kay taught school for 14 years. In addition to her public school teaching, she was a homemaker.

   Kay was a member of St. Patricks Parish in Bayard. In her spare time she was an avid reader and loved to cook and bake for family and friends in their times of need.

  In January 2004 Kay and her husband became residents of the Bayard Nursing and Rehab Center.  After Edwards death in February 2004 she remained there until the facility closed in 2007.  Kay then moved to the Panora Nursing Home.  On October 24, 2007, she suddenly became quite ill and was transferred to the Guthrie County Hospital, Guthrie Center, Iowa, where she died that evening at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 15 days.

   Preceding her in death are her parents and husband.

   She is survived by her two sons James Lyons and wife Sandy of West Des Moines and Mark Lyons of Waukee; 5 grandchildren: Jessica Jimmy and Joe Lyons; and Meredith and Alex Lyons; brother Michael McMahon and wife Marge of Larimore, North Dakota; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
