Karen Ann Guttenfelder was born on April 4, 1942, the daughter of Alvin and Ruby (Peterson) Johnson in Elk Horn, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Elk Horn High School with the class of 1960.
In 1960, Karen married Conrad Guttenfelder, and together they were blessed with three sons. The family made their home in Atlantic, Iowa. After 28 years of marriage, Karen and Conrad went their separate ways. Karen dedicated 30 years of her career to Napco International, where she worked in the office handling clerical responsibilities.
Karen was a devoted mother and grandmother, treasuring the memories created with her family. She found joy in playing BINGO, gardening, and sharing her life with her beloved dogs, whose companionship she deeply valued.
Karen passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2024, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa, at the age of 82 years, nine months and one day. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Lynn Johnson and David Johnson; son, Kelly Guttenfelder.
Karen is survived by two sons: Alan Guttenfelder of Irwin and Corey (Jilene) Guttenfelder of Minnetonka, Minnesota; four grandchildren; brother, Craig (Karen) Johnson of Arkansas; and sisters: Patty Richter of Audubon and Susan Stepanek of Minnesota.
Karen’s wishes were to be cremated and no services will be held at this time.
