Sunrise came for Kaja Lillebeck Kaltoft Juel, when she was born to Danish immigrants, Kristian Hans Mejer and Anine Lillebeck Jensen Kaltoft on November 28, 1924, in their home in Kimballton, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton where she was a lifelong member and active in the early Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church and Danish Folk School. She attended school in Kimballton and graduated from Audubon High School in 1942. Kaja attended University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa where she received her teaching certificate. She was a school teacher in Jacksonville and Sharon Township for several years then assisted her husband with several businesses and remained a homemaker for her family. On May 16, 1947, Kaja was united in marriage with Howard Marius Juel in a double wedding ceremony with her sister, Oda and Alfred Christensen at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton. They made their home in Kimballton in the house where she was born where they raised their two daughters, JoEllyn and Jacqueline. Music was a joy to Kaja. She also enjoyed her grandchildren, flowers and plants, card party, a roaring bonfire, as well as having coffee and conversation with friends and neighbors. Sunset arrived for Kaja on May 17, 2008 at the age of 83 years. Preceding Kaja in death were her parents, Kristian and Anine Kaltoft; sister, Vita Christensen; brothers, Leland Kaltoft and LaVerne Kaltoft; two brothers-in-law, Alfred Christensen and Virgil Hansen; one sister-in law, Helen Jo Kaltoft, and her mother and father-in-law, Hans and Esther Juel.
