Funeral service for June Greenlee is Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Bayard. Visitation is Wednesday, Oct 18, 2006 after 6 PM at Ohde Funeral Home in Bayard. Bertha June, daughter of Jesse Marion and Hettie (Rector) Vaughan, was born June 27, 1924 south of Coon Rapids, in Guthrie County, Iowa. She attended school in Bayard through the ninth grade and completed her schooling and Normal Training in Guthrie Center. She graduated with the Class of 1942. June taught for two years and then worked in Des Moines. On November 6, 1945, June was united in marriage with Ivyl F. Greenlee in Des Moines. They farmed south of Coon Rapids for five years before moving to a farm south of Scranton where they lived and farmed for 40 years. When they retired in 1990, they moved into Bayard. June was a farm wife and in her spare time she enjoyed various crafts, playing cards and eating out with friends. In the winters after their retirement, she and Ivyl enjoyed three months in Texas. June was a member of Ladene Club in Scranton. She enjoyed her membership and friends in the Rebekah Lodge where she was Past Noble Grand. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 44. June was active in the Methodist Church in Bayard where she was finally baptized in 1992. June was a working member of these organizations and held offices in many of them. After the death of her husband in 1992, June remained in their home and continued to enjoy her winters in Texas. In May of 2006 she became a resident of Bayard Nursing and Rehab. She entered Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson and died the next day, October 17, 2006, at the age of 82 years, 3 months and 20 days. Preceding June in death are her parents, husband, daughter Peggy and three brothers Merle, Marion and Frank Vaughan. She is survived by three sisters: Frances Steigerwalt of Bayard Nursing and Rehab; Hilda Moralez of Bayard and Mary Ann and husband Howard Sheeder of Guthrie Center; brother Jim Vaughan and wife Judee of Yale; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to Bayard Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Post 44, or Camp Sunnyside.
