Julie Mary, only child and daughter of Roscoe William and Rose (Marnin) Koob, was born May 29, 1937 at Atlantic, Iowa. The family lived in Anita and she attended country school in the area. Julie graduated from Anita High School in 1955.
Julie was united in marriage in 1956 with Nels Clausen in South Dakota. They made their home in Anita and four children were born to this union. She worked on their farm and at Williams Garage in Atlantic until her divorce from Nels in 1974. She then worked at Schuler’s Manufacturing and Walton’s Manufacturing in Atlantic, as well as other odd jobs. She married Lucky Hedin in the late 1970’s. In her later years Julie worked as a janitor at a turkey factory in Postville.
Julie’s greatest love were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also had a love for horses and kept quite a few on the farm when her children were young. Julie enjoyed fishing all of her life and she played guitar quite often. She also loved visiting and having coffee with her friends in Anita.
Julie moved to the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn in February of 2016. She received fantastic care and comfort there. Julie died there on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 17 days.
Julie is preceded in death by her parents and first husband Nels Clausen in 1997.
She is survived by her children: Nels Thomas Clausen, Anita; Julie Ann Rafferty (boyfriend Al), Memphis, TN; Anton Clausen, Anita; and Richard Lee Clausen, Adair; 2 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
