Joyce Zubrod

Joyce Ann, daughter of Segwall and Velma (Spencer) Henriksen, was born September 29, 1934, at Audubon, Iowa. She graduated from Audubon High School in 1952. On May 2, 1953, Joyce was united in marriage with Don Zubrod at El Paso, TX, where Don was stationed with the U.S. Army. Five children were born to this union. In 1961, the family moved to Manning. Through the years Joyce was the bookkeeper for Don's TV and their car wash business. She also owned and operated The Dime Store with Marsha Clausen for thirteen years. Joyce was a member of Sacred Heart Church and choir in Manning. She liked to play cards, read and spend time regularly with her friends. Joyce had many creative hobbies, including making porcelain dolls, cross-stitch, crochet, quilting and sewing. She treasured time with her family, especially during the Christmas season. Joyce courageously battled cancer for over two years. Following a short stay at the Manning General Hospital, she died there on Wednesday, December 23, 2009. She was 75 years, 2 month and 24 days of age. Preceding her in death are her parents; three children in infancy; sisters: Kathleen in infancy; Gertrude Testroet (Ed); Rosemary Kuntzweiller (Warren); Jeannie Hilsabeck; and Judith Hess; niece Jennifer Hess and nephew Steve Hilsabeck.
