Joseph was one of nine children and attended country school in the Carroll area until he was old enough to start working and helping on his family farm. He served in the United States Army during World War II at Fort Bliss, Texas as a Technician Fifth Grade. He was honorably discharged on January 31st, 1946. After returning from the war Joseph met Lillian (Sinow) at a dance in Manning. They were united in marriage February 28, 1949 at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. They were happily married for 64 years. Joseph worked for Carroll County Secondary Roads for 34 years. He did roadwork for 27 years and was a foreman for seven years. Joseph retired in 1983 which allowed him to do the activities he enjoyed. He was an avid camper, owning many different campers throughout the years, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all, he was a homebody who loved spending time with his family. Joseph looked forward to bringing the grandchildren to see Santa Claus at the American Legion during the holidays. He was very dedicated to his faith, attended mass at Holy Spirit regularly and prayed the rosary often. Joseph was able to live at home with Lillian for the entirety of his life.
