John N Kramer

January 12, 1922 — November 24, 2010

John Nick, son of Nicholas and Mary (Heller) Kramer, was born January 12, 1922 in Carroll, Iowa. He lived with his family on the farm near Maple River and attended rural school. After completing his schooling, John worked with his father on their farm. During World War II, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in April of 1945. John was united in marriage with Jeanette Schroeder in 1945 and they were the parents of eight children. They lived in Des Moines for a short time and then moved to Scranton. In 1960 they moved to Ralston where he worked for the West Central Coop for 25 years as a bulk truck driver. Jeanette died in 1985. In 1988 John was united in marriage with Leota Grossman. They lived in Carroll. Leota died in December of 2003. John enjoyed attending sales, buying junk iron and reselling it. After his retirement he went trapping with his brother and sister. He enjoyed reading western novels, playing cards, especially Pinochle, cribbage and Bingo. In his later years he travelled to most every state in the United States. He was a faithful member of St. Peter and Paul Parish in Scranton. Throughout his life John enjoyed good health and lived in his own home. He was diagnosed with severe anemia and entered St. Anthony Regional Hospital just a week before his death there on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 12 days. Preceding John in death are his parents; two wives; three sons, one in infancy; Richard Kramer and Gary Kramer; grandson Dale Brincks and brother Norbert Kramer. He is survived by six children: Sharon (Larry) Wiederin of Arcadia; Don (Kim) Kramer of Euless, TX; David (Diane) Kramer of Kissimmee, FL; Betty Petersen of Denison; Tom Kramer of Carroll and Kevin (Judy) Kramer of Carroll; 25 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brother Earl (Dorothy) Kramer of Glidden; two sisters Imelda Roth of Spencer and Helen Roth of Arnolds Park; other relatives and friends.
