John David Scott

John David, son of Carl Edward and Mary Margaret (Anderson) Scott, was born April 11, 1934, at Coon Rapids, Iowa. He attended Coon Rapids community schools, graduating high school in 1952. He worked at Peterson Clothing in Coon Rapids before enlisting in the Army in 1955. John served in a clerical capacity in Germany and upon his discharge returned to Coon Rapids. He ran the Standard Oil tank wagon from 1959 to 1966. John was united in marriage with Irene Anthofer on September 16, 1961, at Annunciation Church in Coon Rapids. Five children were born to this union. John worked in distribution and logistics at Garst Seed Co. from 1966 until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Annunciation Church and the local Jaycees, as well as serving as a Boy Scout leader. John taught religious education classes and volunteered at church whenever there was a need. He loved his family and grandchildren and having coffee with his friends. John enjoyed fishing with his children, flower gardening and antiquing in his spare time. On Tuesday, March 2, 2010, John died suddenly and unexpectedly at Annunciation Church in Coon Rapids, Iowa. He was 75 years, 10 months and 19 days of age. John is preceded in death by his parents, brother Jay D. Scott and nephew Roger Curl. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Irene Scott of Coon Rapids; five children: Catherine (Martin) Wiedenman of Omaha, NE; Michael (Lynn) Scott of Broken Arrow, OK; Curtis (Susie) Scott of Carroll; Carol Scott of Omaha, NE; and Sarah (Mark) Scheffer of Sioux City; eight grandchildren: Matthew (Moira) Wiedenman; Austin Wiedenman; John Wiedenman; Kobe Scott; Ethan Scott; Megan Scott; Nelle Scheffer and Miles Scheffer; sister Nadine (Dean) Curl of Des Moines; brother Jerry (Florence) Scott of Kissimmee, FL; special family member Kay (Bill) Kult of Climax Springs, MO; other relatives and friends.
