Joan Marcine, daughter of Francis and Vera (Odefy) Mesenbrink, was born June 15, 1937 at the Denison Hospital in Denison, Iowa.  The family lived on a farm north of Denison until Joan was five years old, at which time they moved to a farm north of Manilla.  Joan attended school in Manilla and graduated from Manilla High School in 1955.  She then worked for Overhead Door in Omaha, Nebraska.

Joan was blessed with five children. Four children were born to Bob Grimm -  Rhonda, Rickey, Renee and Renita; and one was born to Tom Hickey -  Rae Jean.  On May 5, 1984 Joan was united in marriage with James J. Wittrock at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.  They enjoyed having a fun time with people, riding her dune buggy, planting flowers, and taking two lane roads while on vacation.  She cherished the time spent with her Mom.

Joan did many different things in her life and lived in many different states along the way.  She drove truck, managed several Motel 6 locations, was a nurses’ aide, and worked for G.E. as a truck driver and stock keeper. She worked for New Hope Village For eleven years, 7 years of which she cared for the residents.  Joan also managed Elm Crest Apartments for 16 years and managed the VFW Hall for a number of years.

After a short illness, Joan’s health declined and she moved to the Manilla Manor Nursing Home in Manilla.  She died there on January 14, 2018.  She reached the age of 80 years.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Renee (Grimm) Binder; her father Francis Mesenbrink; two sisters-in-law Marion Jones and Janette Pevey; a brother-in-law Florian Wittrock; and parents-in-law George and Bernadine Wittrock.

Joan is survived by her husband Jim Wittrock of Manning; four children: Rhonda (Lance) Kruse of Royal; Rick (Jill) Hickey of Royal, Renita Corbin and special friend Randy Powell of Cody Wyoming, and Rae Jean Hickey, of Manilla; mother, Vera Mesenbrink of Manilla; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, numerous step-children and step-great-grandchildren.  Joan is also survived by three brothers:  Merle (Deanna) Mesenbrink of Cherokee; Craig (Sue) Mesenbrink of Storm Lake; and Dennis (Edie) Mesenbrink of Edmond, Oklahoma; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
