Jim Hagan

May 16, 1925 — December 28, 2012

James August, son of Wayne and Selma (Krukow) Hagan, was born May 16, 1925, at Coon Rapids, Iowa. He attended country schools and then graduated from Coon Rapids High School. Jim completed a one year program at Iowa State University in farm operations. He then returned home to farm with his father and raise pure-bred Duroc hogs. On September 23, 1948, Jim was united in marriage with Madonna Marie Teresa Moylan at St. Patrick's Church in Bayard. Four children were born to this union. Jim and Madonna farmed in the Bayard area where he was also a Pioneer Seed Corn dealer. He served on the board of the Bayard Farmer's Co-Op and was a life-long member of the FFA. In 1993, the couple moved into Coon Rapids and enjoyed traveling to Arizona for many winters. Jim remained active in the farming and cattle operation with his sons and grandsons until shortly before his death. James was a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Bayard and Annunciation Parish in Coon Rapids. He enjoyed daily coffee with his friends at Sparky's, however watching his grandchildren's activities was his favorite pastime. Following a short illness James died at the St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, on Friday, December 28, 2012. He was 87 years, 7 months and 12 days of age. James was preceded in death by his parents; wife Madonna Hagan in 2004; and grandsons John Paul Hagan and Ryan Hagan. He is survived by his four children: Kathy and husband Dr. Bill Brenny of Sac City; Mike Hagan and wife Cindy of Carroll; Pat Hagan and wife Katie of Boone and Jerry Hagan and wife Nancy of Bayard; nine grandchildren: Brian Brenny (Kellie); Bridget Hansen (Nick); Tyler Hagan; Abby Howie (Adam); Chris Hagan and fiancé Heather Orth; Sean Hagan (Amanda); Jacob, Julia and Elizabeth Hagan; 6 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Rita Reis of Jefferson and Kathleen and husband Tom Ferguson of High Point, NC; other relatives and friends.
