Jerome Joseph, son of Boniface and Bernadine (Mersman) Kasperbauer, was born April 18, 1918, near Dedham, Iowa. He attended country school at Ewoldt No. 6 near his home east of Manning. Jerome then worked for his dad on the family farm. On October 1, 1940, Jerome was united in marriage with Margaret Starman at St. John Catholic Church in Adair. They had three children. In 1941 Jerome and Margaret rented a farm east of Manning and purchased this farm in 1964. They had a dairy herd and hog farrowing operation and raised broilers and laying hens. His love for the land was evidenced in his implementation of soil conservation and methods of chemical free farming for which he has won several awards. After living on the farm for 61 years, Jerome and Margaret moved into Manning in December of 2002.
