Janice D. Smith

Janice Darlene, daughter of Clifford Leroy and Mozelle Laura (Burns) Long was born on October 15, 1940 in Manning, Iowa. She grew up in the Coon Rapids area and attended Coon Rapids Schools. Janice was united in marriage with Ronald Smith on May 2, 1958 at the First Christian Church in Coon Rapids. They first lived in and around Coon Rapids before moving to Albert City, Fonda and Lake View. In 1968 they returned to Coon Rapids. For many years Janice worked as a babysitter, at Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home and for Coon Rapids Pharmacy. She loved spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Janice also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and canning. After a long battle with cancer, Janice passed away on September 10, 2011 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 26 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Tammy Kautzky; grandson Jeffery James Long; sisters Carol Jean Betts and Betty Jean Smith and brother Merlin Clifford Long. Janice is survived by her husband Ron Smith of Coon Rapids; children: Mike Smith and wife Deb of Coon Rapids; Tim Smith and wife Sue of Odebolt; Peggy and husband Tom Kautzky of Princeville, IL; Kevin Long of Los Angeles, CA; Jim Long and wife Kathy of Coon Rapids; 21 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; brothers Allen Long and wife Marilyn of Bayard and Larry Long and wife Linda of Bayard; son in law Ed F. Kautzky of Coon Rapids; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
