Jack Orlando Kuns, son of Fred and Beatrice (Berry) Seitz, was born March 20, 1922, at Des Moines, Iowa. He grew up in Madrid and graduated from Madrid High School. After two years at William Penn College in Oskaloosa, he enlisted in the United States military. Jack studied to become a Physicians Assistant while in the service, specializing in the ear, nose and throat field.
Jack proudly served his country during World War II and in Korea and Vietnam. He served in the Army for eleven years and the Air Force for seventeen years. After retiring from the Air Force in 1973, Jack was united in marriage with Virgene (Schact) Eich at Glidden, Iowa, on July 13, 1974. The couple lived in Templeton for 27 years.
After his retirement Jack enjoyed fishing and turkey hunting, especially with his grandchildren. He also tended to a vegetable garden and was locally famous for fostering a thriving population of Council Bluffs black squirrels. Jack was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and V.F.W. over the years. After Virgene died in 1998, Jack continued to live at home for a few years.
Jack lived at Park Lane Village Assisted Living in Knoxville, Iowa for the past six years. He died there on Wednesday afternoon, April 25, 2007, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 5 days. Jack will be deeply missed by his family he so dearly loved, his many friends, and his extended family? at Park Lane Village.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; wife Virgene C. Kuns; two sons, Michael Eich and Mark Eich; grandson Robert Eich; son-in-law John Mitchell; daughter-in-law Diana Eich; and infant sister Melva Kuns.
He is survived by son James Eich and wife Carol of Fort Dodge; three daughters: Beatrice and husband Michael Rorman of Las Vegas, NV; Monica and husband Larry Johnson of Easley, SC; and Connie Mitchell of Omaha, NE; daughter-in-law Levan Eich of Bellevue, NE; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; two very special people in his life: Bob and Elaine Dralle; other relatives and friends.
