Iva Marie, daughter of Matthaus and Rose Magdalena Anna (Knoll) Honold, was born September 18, 1910, near Coon Rapids in Willow Township, Greene County, Iowa. She attended Willow No. 9 and graduated from Bayard High School in 1928. Iva then taught country school for one year. On June 4, 1930, Iva was united in marriage with Henry Schick at Trinity Lutheran Church. To this union, five children were born. Iva and Henry farmed south of Bayard on the family farm until moving into Bayard in 1983. Together they enjoyed their travels to Hawaii, California, Colorado and the South. Henry died in 1993, after 63 years of marriage. Iva was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Coon Rapids, where she was baptized and confirmed. She served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and enjoyed working with the Ladies Aid. Iva was devoted to her family, providing a strong foundation of faith for them. Ivas hobbies included: gardening, canning for her family, card parties, embroidery, quilting and baking angel food cakes. Everyone loved her raspberry jelly. Iva loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Iva was able to remain on her own until 1999 when she became a resident of the Bayard Care Center and then Fountain West Care Center in West Des Moines, Iowa, where she died on September 23, 2006. She was 96 years and 5 days of age. Besides her parents and husband, Iva was preceded in death by her stepfather Dick Muhlenbruch; a sister Caroline Anderson and husband Julius; two brothers Paul Honold and wife Lula and Fred Honold; and a son-in-law Jerry Anderson. She is survived by her five children: Marvin Schick and wife Carolyn of Walnut Creek, CA; Shirley Berns and husband Marvin of Lohrville; Donald Schick and wife Carolyn of Fort Collins, CO; Elaine Anderson of West Des Moines; and Loren Schick and wife Jane of Clive; 12 grandchildren: Gary Schick, Rodney Schick, Kathleen (Schick) Kautz, Donald Berns, Renae (Berns) Johnson, Jana (Berns) Robertson, Jeffrey Schick, Brian Schick, David Anderson, Lynnette Anderson, Lori (Schick) Anderson and Kevin Schick; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Helen Honold; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. We take comfort in knowing that she is living at peace with our Lord.
