Inez Mahnke

June 24, 1919 — February 5, 2018

   Inez Eileen, daughter of Charles and Gustie (Paape) Stoelk, was born June 24, 1919, in Audubon County, Iowa.  She attended rural school in Lincoln Township. She was baptized at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Waltham, MN, and confirmed with her sister Esther on April 18, 1937 at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, IA.

   Inez was united in marriage with Herbert John Mahnke on September 19, 1940, at Rev. Ansorge’s Lutheran parsonage in Manning.  Six children were born to this union.  The couple lived with Herb’s parents for a year, then bought a farm northwest of Aspinwall where they farmed for nearly 60 years.  Inez was a busy and involved farm wife and mother.  She enjoyed embroidery and baking and cooking as well.  The couple were long-time members of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.  Herb and Inez moved to Manning in 1998, and Herb died in 2006.

   Following a short illness Inez died on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa.  She was 98 years, 7 months and 16 days.

   Preceding Inez in death are her parents; husband Herbert Mahnke; son Glen Mahnke; brother Orville Stoelk; and sisters Esther and husband Loyd Borkowski and Dorothy and husband Duane Hillson.

   She is survived by her daughter Joyce and husband John Campbell of Denison; four sons: Eugene Mahnke and wife Susan of Manning; Richard Mahnke of Denver, CO; Larry Mahnke of Manning; and Randy Mahnke of Manning; six grandchildren: Jeffrey Hoffmeier and wife Suzanne of San Francisco, CA; Joseph Campbell and wife Angela of Charles City; James Campbell and wife Pei-Chen Chen of New York, NY; Lori and husband Vince Waner of Warrensburg, MO; Robin and husband Michael Heaton of Manning; and LeeAnn and husband Ronald Christensen of Manilla; 16 great grandchildren; brothers Lyle Stoelk and wife Shirley of Austin, MN and Charles Stoelk and wife Judy of Hayfield, MN; sister-in-law Donna Stoelk of Austin, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
