Howard J Berger

Howard J. Berger, son of Frank and Agnes (Stangl) Berger was born on December 8, 1926 at Carroll, Iowa. He was raised in Arcadia where he attended school until he was sixteen and the family moved to Omaha. There, Howard graduated from high school and then enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1944 to 1946. On December 24, 1948 Howard was united in marriage with Norma Schmitz at St. John's Church in Arcadia. The family made their home in Omaha where Howard worked as an accountant for GMAC. In 1957 they moved to New Jersey and later lived in Europe before returning to the United States in 1974. Howard and Norma moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1981 and in 1987 Howard retired and they moved to Carroll. Howard was a member of St. Lawrence Parish. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling across the country and all around the world. Howard especially loved spending time with his family. On October 13, 2009 Howard died at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. He was 82 years, 10 months and 5 days. Howard was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Shirley Berger. He is survived be his wife Norma Berger of Carroll; daughter Mary Anne Berger of Carroll; son Douglas Berger and wife Jalene of Kansas City, MO; 4 grandchildren: Jason, Sarah, Aaron and Adrian; great-grandchild Arabella; brother Jerry Berger and wife Carol of Omaha, NE; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
