Howard D Clark

Howard Dean, son of Homer DeWalter and Adda Beulah (Olson) Clark, was born July 26, 1925 in rural Iowa. He grew up on the family farm north east of Irwin. Howard attended rural school and then graduated from Irwin High School in 1942. After completing his education he worked with his dad and brother on the farm. On February 20, 1949, Howard was united in marriage with Marianne Blackman by her brother Rev. Clarence Blackman. Two children were born to this union. The family made their home in the Irwin area eventually settling on the Clark family farm where Howard had grown up. Howard was a farmer and also engaged in local trucking. Howard was a member of the Irwin United Methodist Church. He was very involved in the Greenridge Steam and Gas Antique Show over the years. He and his wife enjoyed music together and often jammed' at local music festivals. He was an avid hunter of various game, enjoyed gardening, woodworking and other crafts. Howard became a resident of the Manilla Manor Nursing Home in October of 2007 where he participated in many of the activities. His wife Marianne died on December 22, 2010 shortly after moving to the Manilla Manor. Howard's health started to deteriorate several months before his death on Monday, July 18, 2011, at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 22 days. Preceding him in death are his wife and parents. Howard is survived by his daughter Jeanna Schechinger (Jay) of Manilla; son James Clark (Cathy) of Manilla; four grandchildren: Toni Stork; Mark Rasmussen (fiancée Jennifer Bistline); Matt Clark (fiancée Kattie Arndt); Jami Madden (Jerod); step grandchildren Jacob and Laci Schechinger; seven great-grandchildren: Cale and Trenna Stork; Madison and Jaedan Rasmussen; Hannah and Connor Madden and Cassie Petersen; sister Jean Lansman of Harlan; brother J. Lorren Clark and friend Lorie of Council Bluffs; and very importantly, the staff at the Manilla Manor who had become like family to him.
