Herman Albert, son of Herman and Frances (Korwes) Meiners, was born April 19, 1923, near Viola Center, Iowa. He attended school at Dedham and country school north of Denison. Following his schooling, Herman farmed with his father. On February 25, 1952, Herman was united in marriage with Irene Groth at Sacred Heart Church in Manilla. Four children were born to this union. Herman and Irene farmed west of Manilla, until retiring in 2005. Herman was a member of Sacred Heart Church. Throughout the years, he held membership in the National Farmers Organization, enjoyed dancing, playing cards and checkers and watching television. Due to failing health, Herman became a resident of the Manilla Manor in August of 2006. On Friday, November 3, 2006, Herman died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa. He was 83 years, months and days of age. Herman was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Joe Meiners, George Meiners and wife Tillie, Eddie Meiners and Henry Meiners; a sister in infancy; brothers-in-law: Vertus Groth, Milroy Groth, Darlo Pirwitz and Arlo Jensen; and a sister-in-law Donna Groth. He is survived by his wife Irene Meiners of Manilla; four children: Carol and husband Everett Dungan of Schleswig; Dale Meiners and wife Shirley of Manilla; Michael Meiners and wife Judy of Omaha, NE; and Patty and husband Chad Wiese of Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren: Brandi Dungan, Jeff Dungan, Zachery Meiners, Tanya Meiners, Jonathan Meiners, Matthew Meiners, Nathan Meiners, Pamela Etherington and husband Nate, and Derek Bruck; several in-laws: Rose Meiners of Carroll; Elaine Meiners of Manilla; Darlene Jensen of Schleswig; Wilbert Groth of Denison; Marlys Groth of Denison; Betty Meeves of Dunlap; Marilyn Pirwitz of Charter Oak; Margaret Moeller of Denison; and Marlene Schneider of Schleswig; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
