Henry Marvin, son of Martinus and Martha (Pallisgaard) Pedersen, was born July 12, 1918, in rural Coon Rapids, Iowa. After his mother died in the flu epidemic of 1920, he was raised by his stepmother Maren. Henry attended rural school through the eighth grade.
Henry worked with his father on the family farm until he was drafted on June 9, 1943. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in a transportation capacity in North Africa and Italy until his honorable discharge in September of 1945. He then returned to the family farm. Henry and Betty Beatty were united in marriage on November 13, 1971, at Indianapolis, Indiana. They lived on the family farm where they raised crops and livestock, retiring in the late 1980s. After their farm sale, they continued to live on the farm.
Henry was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids and was also active in the VFW. In his spare time, he worked with both wood and metal in his well-equipped shop. Henry was known for the metal dinosaur art that adorned his front yard for many years.
Following a brief period of hospitalization this spring, Henry moved to The New Homestead in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He died there on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 12 days.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents.
Henry is survived by his wife Betty Pedersen of Audubon and cousins in both the U.S. and Denmark.
