Helen Bull

Helen Elizabeth Katherine, daughter of Henry and Martha (Luitjens) Lackman, was born May 2, 1926 at Milford Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She attended country school for grades 1 - 5 and then Zion Lutheran parochial school in Denison for grades 6 - 8. Helen graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1947. She then worked as an office assistant at the Crawford County Extension office until the fall of 1951 when she moved to Coon Rapids. Helen was united in marriage to Gerald Bull on November 28, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church northeast of Coon Rapids. The couple farmed for six years before moving into town. Helen was employed as a bookkeeper for Thorp Implement Company, Hilgenberg Motor Company, Coon Rapids Plumbing and Heating, Keister Lumber Company, Malcom and Thompson Inc., Alfa Valley Inc. and Emerson Inc. She served eight years on the Carroll County 4-H committee, four years as secretary-treasurer on the Four County Fair Association and another six years as treasurer. As a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids, Helen served for 10 years on the church council (6 years as treasurer), held office in the ladies' group and served as a volunteer church secretary on three different occasions. She also served as church musician for many years. Helen's interests included knitting, crocheting, genealogy research, American history and Bible history, as well as stamp collecting. Following a short hospital stay due to heart disease complications, Helen died at the Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa, on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. She was 85 years, 10 months and 5 days of age. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald Bull (July 1979) and brother Marvin Lackman. She is survived by sister-in-law Anna Lackman of Denison, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
