Harry Junior Christensen

Graveside services for Harry Christensen will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2006 at Union Township Cemetery, Coon Rapids, Iowa.

Harry Junior, son of Harry C. and Carrie Marie (Nelson) Christensen, was born September 17, 1924, at home in Guthrie County, Iowa. He attended country schools, Bear Grove No. 3, in Guthrie County until the 8th grade. He then attended Guthrie High School through the ninth grade. Following his education, Harry was a farmhand for various farms in Guthrie County. On February 21, 1948, Harry was united in marriage with Iola Dionessa Brower in Dallas County. For several years they farmed various places in West Central Iowa. They made their home in the Coon Rapids area 56 years ago. Harry worked at Grettenberg Implement in Coon Rapids for 21 years. Later, he drove the preschool Headstart Bus for 11 years. Harry and Iola enjoyed sitting in their yard watching people go by. He also loved to attend the morning coffee groups. Harrys health had been failing the last few months, and on Friday, November 3, 2006, he died at Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home in Coon Rapids, Iowa. He was 82 years, 1 month and 17 days of age. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Beverly Christensen; brothers: Harold, Harvey and Victor Christensen; and seven sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He is survived by his wife Iola Christensen of Coon Rapids; son Bob and wife Betty Christensen of Coon Rapids: step-son Ron and wife Janice Brower of Coon Rapids; nine grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister-in-law Doris Reed of West Des Moines; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
