Harriet Dorothy, daughter of Lawrence and Clara (Zitzlsperger) Hoffman, was born February 2, 1917 in Carroll County near Willey, Iowa.  She attended school in Willey and then remained at home to help care for her family.

Harriet moved to Manning in the early 1950s where she continued to work as a homemaker.  Harriet never had idle hands as she dedicated her entire life to caring for her family. She loved to cook, bake, make needlework projects to give to others, play bingo and spend time with babies and children. Harriet was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Altar and Rosary Society in Manning.

In 1997, Harriet became a resident at the Manning Plaza. She enjoyed her time there visiting with the staff and other residents. On May 5, 2008, Harriet was admitted to Manning Regional Healthcare Center. She died there on Friday, May 9, 2008 at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 7 days.

Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Earl Hoffman, and brothers-in-law: Leo Bluml and Ed Long.

She is survived by her siblings: Phyllis Bluml of Denison; Julius Hoffman and wife Ellen of Wheaton, IL; Willie Hoffman of Manning and Marian Long of Carroll; 10 nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
