Gerhardt Theodore (G.T.) Voge (September 16, 1922 to July 15, 2019)
G.T. Voge was born on September 16, 1922 to Henry and Jessie (Lamp) Voge in the home he resided in for over 90 years. He passed away on July 15, 2019 after a short stay at the Manilla Manor in Manilla Iowa. G.T. graduated from the Manning High School in 1940. G.T. met his wife Billie at the Sextro Steak House (later known as Saunders Steak House along Highway 141 in Manning) in 1954. G.T. married Billie (DeBoth)on August 4, 1954. They raised five children together: James, Jerry, Terry, Bill and Ann. G.T. Voge was a farmer for most of his life, but also was employed by several local businesses including J&S Feed Services, Manning Dehy plant and the Aspinwall Coop. He eventually retired at the age of 90.
G.T. enjoyed 57 years with the Masonic Lodge. G.T. never knew a stranger; he always helped his neighbors and friends. G.T. was one of the original card players at McMahon Seed Store. G.T. will always be remembered for his amazing memory, great story teller and work ethic. He had a sense of humor, compassion for others, and became famous for his part in the promotional movies for Templeton Rye. G.T. enjoyed drives around Manning, collecting his mail, and an occasional ice cream cone. He loved the Sunday morning visits with Rickie Dammann, who also kept a watchful eye on him.
G.T. is survived by his children: James (Linda) of Audubon, Iowa; Bill (Jami) of Jackson, Wyoming; and Ann (Mark) of Manning, Iowa. He also is survived by his loving grandchildren and great grandchildren: Heather (Shane) Brundieck – Lincoln Nebraska and Isabella and Oliver; Jamey (Brandy) Voge – Wills Point, Texas and Landon and Cheyenne; James (Joni) Switzer – Tabor, Iowa and Austin, Dane, James, Addie and Ellie; Jessica (Matt) McKinley – Albuquerque, New Mexico and Harley, Cash and Jax; Emily (Ben) Hester, Cardiff, California; Hank Voge, San Francisco, California; John (Carly) Voge, Venice, California; Michael Voge, New York, New York and Paul (Maddie) Voge, Denver, Colorado.
G.T. was preceded by the loss of his wife Billie in 2018, his sons, Terry Voge in 1972 and Jerry Voge in 1982, and his parents, Jessie (Lamp) Voge in 1967 and Henry Voge in 1949.
A celebration of G.T.’s life will be held at Cliff's in Manning on Thursday July 18, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. Visitation and viewing will start at 9:00 am on Friday July 19 at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, followed by the funeral at 10:00 a.m. and graveside services at the Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers: Rickie Dammann, Dale Hinners, Kent Hugeback, David Kusel, John Ohde, James Switzer Jr. , James Switzer III and Mark Trullinger.
