Gordon Eldred, son of Jasper and Bonnie Glenys (Minnich) Heuton, was born May 28, 1953, at Carroll, Iowa. He started school in Coon Rapids and then attended Viola Center and Brit before moving to Kimballton. Gordon graduated from Elk Horn High School in 1971. After graduation he attended HVAC school in Creston and held various jobs in the Elk Horn, Kimballton, Atlantic and Audubon areas.
On August 23, 1980, Gordon was united in marriage with Joyce Andersen in Elk Horn. They were the parents of four children and lived in the Atlantic and Audubon area. Gordon was a plumber and worked for Armstrong Plumbing and Heating and Camblins in Atlantic. He then worked at Equipment Brokers, Inc. of R. J. Trausch Industries in Audubon.
Gordon was bitten by a spider that eventually required surgery and extensive hospitalization. When he was dismissed from the hospital he settled in Manning where they had planned to move before his hospitalization. His health continued to deteriorate.
Gordon was a straight talking man and enjoyed joking with family and friends. He especially enjoyed camping, horseback and trail riding with his family. Gordon also spent time hunting, fishing and target shooting with his family.
Even though Gordons health was not the best, his death at home in Manning on Saturday, April 4, 2009, was sudden and unexpected. He was 55 years, 10 months and 7 days of age.
Preceding Gordon in death are his parents.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Heuton of Manning; four children: Allison Heuton of Manning; Justin Heuton, stationed with the Navy in Norfolk, VA; Spencer Heuton of Carroll and Devon Heuton of Manning; five grandchildren: Taylor, Joshua, Dakota, Drake and Noah; three brothers: Steve Heuton and wife Joanie of Kimballton; Bruce Heuton of Lewis and Jeff Heuton of Atlantic; in-laws Sherrie and husband Jim Davis of Des Moines; Donna and husband Gary Hostetler of Iowa City and Keith Andersen and wife Ann of Fort Dodge; other relatives and friends.
