Gloria Wiskus

Gloria Jean, daughter of Elmer T. and Grace (Rohrbeck) Schleisman was born on December 15, 1928 in Lidderdale, Iowa. She attended Holy Family Grade School and graduated from Carroll High School. On September 9, 1947 Gloria was united in marriage with Clarence H. Wiskus at Holy Family Church in Lidderdale. Two children were born into this union and Gloria worked as a homemaker until her children reached school age. She then established and directed the school lunch program at Holy Family School. When the school closed its doors, Gloria began working in the office at Farmer's Coop in Lidderdale. She retired from there after 16 years of service. Gloria was a member and a tireless volunteer at Holy Family Parish. There she worked as a bookkeeper and would help with mowing and snow removal and anything else that was asked of her by the parish or priest. Gloria was also a member of the Holy Family Rosary Society. On March 23, 2011 Gloria passed away at her home in Lidderdale of complications from cancer. She was 82 years, 3 months and 8 days of age. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence in 1993; brothers: Merle, Vernon, Don and Leon Schleisman and brothers and sisters in law: Dorothy Schreck, Florence Balk, Geneva Dentlinger, Matlida "Tillie" Wiskus, Sister Christelle Wiskus and Alfred Wiskus. She is survived by her son Ron Wiskus and wife Ruth of San Diego, CA; daughter Rhonda and husband Ron Jones of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Brian Wiskus, Brad Wiskus and wife Kelly; Sheila and husband Tim Lincoln; Amy and husband Russell Anderson; Andrea and husband Chris Reed and Angela and husband Freddie Simshauser; 8 great grandchildren; sisters in law: Donna Schleisman of Keokuk; Helen Schleisman of Des Moines; Fay Schleisman of Carroll; Rita Schleisman of Sleepy Eye, MN and Darlene Leiting of Arcadia; nieces, nephews, other relatives, many friends and her faithful furry companion, Yogi.
