Glenn Alfred, son of Alfred and Floy (Heater) Betts, was born May 25, 1923 near Coon Rapids in Carroll County, Iowa.  He attended Coon Rapids school until moving to Bayard where he graduated from Bayard High School in 1942.

On December 8, 1948 Glenn was united in marriage with Lorene Johnston at Coon Rapids.  Two children, Duane and Mary, were born to this union.  Following their marriage they began farming south of Coon Rapids and moved to a farm north of town in the early 1960s.  Glenn continued farming after moving into the familys new home in town in 1974.  While farming he was very active in the National Farmers Organization, serving as secretary for many years.  He retired in 1999, but he remained loyal to the farming cause, passionately believing that treating farmers fairly is the key to a thriving economy.  A highlight of every weekday for many years was Congregate Meals, where Glenn enjoyed eating with friends and helping with the books. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids.   Glenn was devoted to his grandchildren, following all of their activities and lives with interest and pride.  He loved CR-B sports " football, girls and boys  basketball, and baseball provided him much enjoyment during his last few years.

Glenn had been slowed by heart problems for the past several years and died suddenly at home in Coon Rapids on Friday, November 7, 2008.  He was 85 years, 5 months and 13 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lorene Betts; brother Clyde Betts; brother-in-law Paul Dobson; and grandson Travis Schwaller.

Glenn is survived by his son Duane Betts of Marshall, MN; daughter Mary and husband Jim Schwaller of Coon Rapids; 7 grandchildren: Kenya and husband Aaron Cox; Kristen and husband Jonathan Mackey; Kara and husband Robert Douglas; Duane Betts, Jr.; Tyler Schwaller; Johnny Schwaller; and Zachary Kuebler; great-grandchildren Kobe Cox and Konner Mackey; sister Florence Dobson of Alamo, TX; sister-in-law Vivian Betts of Jefferson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
