Gerald Gene, son of Herman Henry and Maude (Gassman) Schulte, was born December 20, 1925 at Wynot, NE. The Schulte family moved to Carroll, IA, in January of 1933 where Gerald graduated from Carroll High School. He served with the United States Army in the European theater during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. Gerald then joined Bierl’s Construction in Carroll as a wood worker. He was skilled in all the carpentry involved in house construction.
On January 26, 1952, Gerald was united in marriage with Dolores Sondgeroth at Holy Angels Church in Roselle. Four children were born to this union. The family moved to Marshalltown in 1968 and Gerald worked as Superintendent of Construction for Bryngelson Corporation. Throughout his life he designed and built furniture in his free time. Gerald’s work ethic has been passed down to each new generation of his family. Gerald was a 50-year member of St. Henry’s parish in Marshalltown and a past member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion.
Dolores passed away in 1995. Gerald never truly retired – he was up on the roof “supervising” just a month before his passing. On Wednesday, November 9, 2016, Gerald died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Marshalltown, IA. He was 90 years, 10 months and 20 days of age.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dolores Schulte, and siblings: Raymond Schulte, Evelyn Goecke, Vincent Schulte, Bernard Schulte and Marilyn Kanne.
He is survived by his children: Mary Beth Schulte, Las Vegas, NV; Steve Schulte, Ames; Peggy Rabet (Said), Yorba Linda, CA; Scott Schulte (Sheryl Clingerman), LeGrand; six grandchildren: Amanda Schulte, Sara Gaudreau, Jeremy Clingerman, Alis Moon, Lacey Swedberg and Tiffany Catron; six great grandchildren; siblings: Grace Langenfeld (Omer), Cyril Schulte (Hilda), and Gloria Grimsman, all of Carroll; Dolores’ sister: Irma Reicks (Art), Carroll; other relatives and friends.
Gerald’s family requests that memorial donations in his honor be made to St. Henry’s Church, 211 West Olive Street, Marshalltown, IA 50158.
