George Ralph, son of Pearl and Della (Smith) Hicks, was born March 23, 1919, at Cherokee, Iowa. He began his schooling in Cherokee and when his family moved to the Audubon area he continued his education in rural school north of Audubon. George began his trucking career as a teenager in the Audubon area.
On December 24, 1945, George was united in marriage with Ann Prebeck at Jackson, MN. Three children were born into this union. The couple purchased a restaurant in Templeton and later bought Midway Caf and Truck Stop, locally known as Hicks Corner, Hicks Oil Company or Templeton Corner. During these years, the family enjoyed spending weekends at Lake View. After they retired in 1977 the couple moved to Mountain Home, AR, wintering in Weslaco, TX. Later they moved to Russellville, AR. After Anns death in 2001, George moved to Westwood Knolls Apartments in Carroll, IA. Throughout his life, George enjoyed dancing and playing cards.
