Gary George, son of George and Ruth (Morlan) Carpenter, was born September 18, 1936 at Viola, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Viola School. Shortly after graduation, he met Marilyn Golay. They were united in marriage on June 15, 1957. Five children were born to this union.
Gary and Marilyn first lived in Perry where he worked for Osmundsons. In 1962 they moved to Coon Rapids where he began working for Garst Company on their farms. Gary enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed woodworking and hanging out at the coffee shop with his friends.
Gary suffered several health problems in recent years, but was able to remain at home, 813 4th Avenue, Coon Rapids. He died there on Sunday, February 15, 2009, at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 26 days.
Preceding him in death are his parents and son Gary Allan, in infancy.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Marilyn Carpenter of Coon Rapids; four children: Peggy and husband Bruce Johnson of Alta; Mike Carpenter and wife Jackie of Gilmore City; Melissa Arnold and fianc David Means of Bagley; and Greg Carpenter and wife Linda of Coon Rapids; six grandchildren Timothy, Jodi, Jennifer, Ashley, Becky and Dalton; six great-grandchildren Collin, Adan, Blayke, Garrett, Autumn and Taron; siblings Marie and husband Dennis Leiting of Carroll; Bill Carpenter and wife Rose of Chariton; Virginia Berger of Carroll; Carol Richards of Coon Rapids and Sandra and husband Bob Burns of Oregon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
