Garnet Anna, daughter of Arthur and Anna (Bauerle) Elias was born November 19, 1919 in Wheatland Township, Carroll County, Iowa.  She attended Westside and rural schools and graduated from Westside High School in 1937. She then attended SJC summer school at Denison to earn her normal training certificate and returned to teach at the country school she attended as a pupil.  On August 20, 1941 Garnet was united in marriage with Earl Stribe at her parent’s home near Westside.  They made their home on the Stribe farm northeast of Manning and purchased it in 1948.  Two sons were born to this union, Russell Earl and Richard Charles.

Garnet enjoyed her life on the farm, including farm chores, gardening, canning, and growing lots of flowers, especially gladiolas.  She was named Carroll County Homemaker of the year in 1956, was an active worker for the American Cancer Society and a member of the Carroll County Extension Service. Additionally, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning where she served as an Elder, taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years, served as president of Presbyterian Women, and was a circle leader.

Earl and Garnet moved to Manning in 1974 where she continued to enjoy raising flowers which consisted of many hybrid lilies, made numerous wreaths and flower arrangements, enjoyed decorating tables, and created many cross stitch and quilling. She was a member and past president of the Homemakers Club, Garden Club, and several bridge clubs. She and Earl enjoyed dancing and playing cards with friends. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1991, and their 60th wedding anniversary in 2001.

When Garnet could no longer live at home, June 2016 she moved to Char-Mac Assisted Living in Manning. After suffering falls over the past several months, Garnet died on Monday, February 20, 2017 at the age of 97 years, 3 months and 1 day.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Earl in 2002; brothers Wilbert Elias and Earl (Lois) Elias, and sisters Ruth (Walter) Hargens and Pauline (Roy) Kruse and sisters-in-law Arlene (Howard) Wood, Vera (Jack) Budde and Phyllis (Selmer) Hodne.
