Frank Wegner

Frank Gene, son of Emil and Margaret (Vehrs) Wegner, was born December 12, 1928 at Aspinwall, Iowa. He lived in Aspinwall with his family until the age of 12 when the family moved to Manning. He completed his education and graduated from Manning High School in 1947. Frank enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948 and served at the Destroyer Base, San Diego, CA. He was honorably discharged in 1950. Frank was a barber in Manning for 20 years following his discharge from the Navy. He then was in the Casey's Convenience Store business for 25 years living in Sioux Rapids. In 1999 Frank moved back to Manning. Frank was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was an avid golfer and an avid Democrat as anyone who knew him would agree. He enjoyed driving around town later in life and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family. Frank had been suffering some health problems and after a fall in his apartment he died the next day, Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Manning Regional Healthcare Center, Manning, Iowa at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 25 days. Preceding him in death are his parents; three brothers Melvin (Helen) Wegner, Paul Wegner, and Warren (Zelda) Wegner; brother in law Maynard Thompson; and two nephews Jeffrey and Michael Wegner. Frank is survived by two sisters Lucille Thompson of Eagle Grove and Judith Kay Wegner of Manning; brother Don Wegner (Marge) of Des Moines; many nieces and nephews who he considered his family and many friends.
